  Colourless Kowhai
New Zealand – added 3 October 2008

A quantity of the 3d Kowhai definitive issued from 1 September 1960 has appeared on the market missing three out of a total of four colours. All detail is lost and just the blue background colour remains. The error was first offered by Ashford Stamps of Auckland in September 2008 and was claimed to have been discovered by a postmaster at the time of issue. Aside from the missing colours, the remaining blue is a different shade to the five acknowledged shades from the issue. Gum, watermark and perforations are identical to normal stamps. The error is currently being offered at NZD $1,500 by Ashford.

  Rural Green Loss
Great Britain – added 10 September 2008

A major unrecorded error – missing green from the 1970 Cottages 5d – has surfaced in a specialised Great Britain collection. The error results in the loss of colour from the cobbled pathway at the foot of the design; it’s subtle and could easily have been overlooked had it not occurred within a cylinder pair lacking the 1F cylinder number referencing green. The Cottages error in cylinder pair has a July 2008 certificate of authenticity from the Royal Philatelic Society and is being offered by dealer Bill Barrell.

  Auction Trials & Errors
Great Britain – added 3 September 2008

The David Feldman All World auction from 3 October 2008 contains several unrecorded chunks of Queen Elizabeth II trials and errors, including an imperforate sheet of the 1966 Battle of Hastings 4d, a 10 x 10 imperforate block of the 20p Bright Green Machin (issued from March 1999), an imperforate marginal block of six of the 1983 British Army Uniforms 26p, a block of six of the unissued £5 Machin printed with brown iriodin ink, and a block of 30 stamps featuring five sets of the 2003 A British Journey: Scotland trials with different values to the issued stamps.

Other imperforate Machin multiples include the De La Rue-printed 35p Sepia, 39p Grey, 40p Turquoise-Blue, and 43p Emerald issued from 1 April 2004.

Three imperforate panes of the 2004 A British Journey: Wales set feature in the auction – the 2nd, 1st and 68p denominations. All three are additional to the previously recorded imperforate panes from the set.

  What A Pane, James
Great Britain – added 31 July 2008

Pane three from the James Bond prestige booklet issued 8 January 2008 has been reported missing phosphor. The pane features the 1st, 54p and 78p values from the six-stamp set issued the same day as the booklet. Phosphor bands are normally printed on the vertical sides of each stamp. A total of 12 panes (eight still within booklets) without phosphor bands were found by a first day cover producer at the time of issue. The finder, who has recently sold all examples to Stanley Gibbons, kept quiet about the discovery to determine the quantity of the error in existence. To date no other copies have been reported. Stanley Gibbons are selling the intact booklets for £1,250 each and the individual panes for £1,000 each.
